This great underground wonder, located near Kutztown, has been visited by millions of people since it was discovered in 1871 and was named after the dazzling display of shining calcium crystals that were carved slowly and exquisitely by nature over the years. The rock formations you will see in the caves have been delighting and amazing people for years and years.
The 45 minute underground cave tour takes you through an array of spectacular stalagtites, stalagmites, and unusual rock formations, where you will enjoy a comfortable 54 degree decent 125 feet below the earth. You don’t need to worry about getting lost, as each tour is accompanied by trained guides, and there is plenty of lighting and railings along the way. Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes, as you won’t want the day to end!
There are a variety of other attractions at Crystal Cave, all on their 125 scenic acres, including the Ice Cream Parlor and Restaurant, an unusual miniature golf course, a scenic nature trail, and everyone’s favorite, the ability to pan for gemstones! A variety of gemstones, emeralds, or fossils can be found when you purchase a special bag of dirt and use the new sluice. Running water washes away the dirt to reveal a beautiful assortment of gems or fossils to be kept as a souvenir! Crystal Cave also has a Rock and Mineral Shop where you’ll find a large selection of unique specimens from around the world.
