The Lehigh Valley is loaded with parks and recreational activities. From walking trails to climbing to the top of a mountain, you’ll find it in our area! I’ve had many relocation clients ask me if there are places to fish in the area. There absolutely are! Since the Lehigh Valley is made up of Allentown, Bethlehem and Easton, that’s a lot of places to list. So in this post I’ll focus on eight places to fish in Allentown.
Fishing in Allentown
Catasauqua Lake / Canal Park System – 1960 Dauphin Street, Allentown
This 15 acre park has a lake for fishing and a picnic area, complete with four gazebos and walking/running trails. There is also a towpath and a 45′ by 72′ pavilion to accommodate large group functions. A Veteran’s Memorial honoring all branches of the Armed Forces is also located in the Park. This location no longer allows fishing – updated 5/28/14.
Cedar Creek Parkway East – Along Cedar Creek between Cedar Crest Blvd. and Haines Mill Road.
This 37.5 acre park has several picnic tables and benches near the mill raceway. The area along Cedar Creek is mowed making it a pleasant place to walk or fish for trout.
Kimmets Lock Park – Between Route 22 and Tilghman Street along Dauphin Street near the airport.
This 5 acre park allows fishing and has trails for walking.
Lehigh Canal Park – Located south of Hamilton St Dam, Bethlehem City Line
This park is 55 acres and allows fishing. There is also a picnic area with a pavilion and trails for walking.
Lehigh Parkway – Located along the Little Lehigh River for more than three miles.
A popular place to access the park is along Fish Hatchery Road. There are many fishing spots as well as exercise trails complete with beautiful scenery. This was a favorite of my family’s at one point!
South Mountain Reservoir – [500-699] S 10th St, Allentown
This 157 acre park offers fishing, a sports field, picnic area and pavilion, and scenic trails for walking or running.
Trout Creek – [500-627] Dixon St, Allentown
There is so much you can do at Trout Creek including fishing, trails for backpacking and hiking, mountain and road biking, bird watching, picnicking, and even children’s activities. In the winter you can go cross country skiing and sledding.
Union Terrace – 20th and Walnut Streets, Allentown
This 19 acre park offers fishing, sports fields, and an area for picnicking.
