If you are the host of dinner parties throughout the holiday season, it can be difficult to find easy to make dishes, sides, and desserts that will leave your guests full and impressed. Look no further this December and try any of these five recipes that are sure to leave your friends and family wondering where you learned to do that!
Each of these recipes was given to us by either a friend, past client, or family member and each has a proven track record of delighting all who tried them.
Appetizer
Ingredients:
1 Quart Mushrooms
1 Cup Garlic Butter (or use regular butter and 2 Tbsp. minced garlic)
1 Cup Burgundy Wine
1 tsp. Salt (use a little less if your butter has salt in it)
1 tsp. Pepper
Directions:
Put everything in a saucepan on the stove (or a crockpot) and simmer. The longer they simmer, the better they are! (Simmer at least 2 hours on the stove) Enjoy!
Main Dish
Ingredients:
1 (8-10 pound) fully cooked Ham, bone-in
2-3 Tbsp. Ground Cinnamon
2 Tbsp. Ground Cloves
Whole Cloves, optional
1/2 Cup Brown Sugar, packed
1 Tbsp. Yellow or Dijon Mustard
1 Tbsp. Flour
Directions:
-Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
-Cut skin away from ham, but leave fat.
-Rub ham with cinnamon and cloves to cover it completely.
-Wrap tightly in foil and bake for 15 minutes per pound of ham.
-Cool ham slightly and scrape away cinnamon and cloves; discard.
-Coat ham with thin layer of mustard. If desired, cut diamond pattern into fat layer and garnish each diamond with a whole clove.
-Combine brown sugar with the flour.
-Pat brown sugar over ham to evenly cover fat layer. Use additional brown sugar, if needed, to thoroughly coat ham.
-Return ham, uncovered, to the oven for an additional 30-35 minutes to melt and caramelize the brown sugar.
-Cool before slicing and serving.
Side Dish
Ingredients:
2 Boxes Frozen Chopped Broccoli; Cooked
2 Eggs
1 Can Cream of Mushroom Soup
1 Cup Mayo
1 Cup Grated Cheddar Cheese
1 Tbsp. Minced Onion
Seasoned Bread Crumbs
Butter
Directions:
-Mix eggs, soup, mayo, cheese, and onion in a deep dish casserole.
-Add cooked broccoli and stir.
-Top with seasoned bread crumbs, rest of cheese, and dot with butter.
-Bake uncovered at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
Deserts
Ingredients:
1 Pie Crust, refrigerated
1 3/4 Cup Canned Solid Packed Pumpkin (15 0z.)
1 Can Evaporated Milk (12 oz.)
2 Large Eggs, beaten
3/4 Cup Sugar
1 tsp. Ground Cinnamon
1/4 tsp. Salt
Topping:
1/2 Cup Flour
1/3 Cup Firmly Packed Brown Sugar
3 Tbsp. Butter
1/2 Cup Chopped Pecans
Whipped Cream (optional)
Directions:
-Prepare pie crust according to package directions into a 9 inch pie plate.
-Heat oven to 350 degrees.
-Stir together pumpkin, evaporated milk, eggs, sugar, cinnamon, and salt in a large bowl until smooth and creamy.
-Pour into unbaked pie crust.
-Combine flour, brown sugar, butter, cinnamon and salt.
-Mix with fork until mixture resembles course crumbs.
-Stir in chopped pecans.
-Sprinkle over filling.
-Bake 55 to 60 minutes or until knife inserted in center comes out clean.
-Cool to room temperature before serving.
Finish off this amazing desert with whipped cream if desired and enjoy!
Ingredients:
6-8 Apples or Peaches (pared & sliced)
1 Tbsp. Sugar
1 tsp. Cinnamon
3/4 cup Butter
1 cup additional Sugar
1 cup Flour
1 Egg
1 pinch of Salt
Directions:
-In a 9″ pie plate, layer fruit to about 2/3 full.
-Sprinkle with 1 Tbsp. sugar and 1 tsp. cinnamon
-Melt butter in large glass measuring cup
-Add into melted butter: 1 cup sugar, 1 cup flour, 1 egg (mixed), pinch of salt, then Stir
-Pour all over fruit
-Bake at 350 for 45-55 minutes until golden brown. Pie forms its own crust.
-Add a scoop of french vanilla ice cream to complete this amazing desert
