Summer isn’t over yet even though stores and families are already gearing up for ‘back to school’! There is never a shortage of things to do in the Lehigh Valley and the upcoming weeks of summer are no exception. With events and activities that are perfect for just one or the entire family, make the most of the remainder of the warm weather and outdoor events.
Das Awkscht Fescht is back for its 48th year, returning to Macungie Memorial Park for three fun-filled days from August 5 – 7. Visitors can cruise through 42 acres of classic cars at the Fescht and enjoy all the great things that summers are made of. Tickets are just $7 for adults and $2 for kids 15 and under. In addition to the hundreds of classic cars you will see, there is also a flea market complete with arts and crafts vendors.
Also starting on August 5 and continuing through August 14 is one of the area’s most popular summer events, Musikfest. Located in Bethlehem, visit what is one of the largest music festivals in the country! Some of the featured performers this year include Steve Miller Band, Steely Dan, Stone Temple Pilots and Train. Aside from the exceptional musical acts, Musikfest also showcases plenty of food, artwork and kid-friendly events.
Another fun event is the 50th Annual Summer Festival which takes place on the campus of Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg. Special attractions such as crafts, rides, food, games and Kiddie Land are available to entertain the whole family. Sponsored by Lehigh Valley Health Network, this 50 year tradition is one of the largest of the hospital’s fundraisers. From August 17-20, enjoy an event that offers free parking on the hospital campus, free admission, and free entertainment, complete with activities for people of all ages.
The Great Allentown Fair returns at the end of August with musical acts and entertainment sure to draw people from all over. From August 30 – September 5 , the Allentown Fairgrounds will be transformed into a hub of excitement, with concerts by Journey with Foreigner, Marc Anthony, Bruno Mars and 3 Doors Down, as well as the traditional food, carnival, and agricultural / livestock contests. Get your tickets early for the musical performances, because they’re selling fast! The Allentown Fairgrounds is located at 302 N 17th St.
