Just a few short years ago, 2005 marked the beginning of the vision that has just recently become a reality for the newly renovated and re-purposed Steelstacks in Bethlehem, Pa. The ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks is now a four-story, contemporary performing arts center, and cultural campus with three outdoor performance venues that will bring local, regional, and national artistic, musical, and cinematic performances to the Lehigh Valley, 365 days a year. Artsquest President, Jeff Park, discussed his vision back in 2005 and is now proud to make available a tour of the genius that went into the creation of Steelstacks.
The tour begins on Thursday, May 26, 2011, at 11:30am and will include lunch on the outdoor patio. During the time of the event, Jeff Park will discuss how this dynamics arts, culture, and education campus came to life on 4.5 acres of the former Bethlehem steel site. You will take a behind the scenes tour and gain insights on the design presented by Michael Metzger, Spillman Farmer Architects, and hear from John Baer, The Alvin H. Butz Company about the construction of unique spaces for live performances and community gathering. You will see the Blast Furnace Room, the Musikfest Cafe, and exciting gallery spaces.
The Artsquest Center/Steelstacks is located on Third Street in Bethlehem and the cost is $20 for CREW members and $25 for guests. Reservations are requested by May 20 and can be made by visiting www.crewlehighvalley.org.
The Fowler Blast Furnace Room, just one of the many things you’ll see on the tour, is a very exciting feature of Steelstacks. Located on the 2nd floor, this multi-purpose community space has three walls of glass offering views of the Blast Furnaces and the rest of the ArtsQuest Center. The Fowler Blast Furnace Room, fully outfitted with the latest audio and visual capabilities, will provide great space for intimate performances including music, comedy, theatre, children’s and family programming, and more, social, corporate functions and weddings, as well as lectures, seminars, and workshops.
