Thursday, May 27 marked the first night of May Fair, an annual arts and music event at Cedar Beach Park in Allentown, Pa. May Fair lasts until Monday, May 31 at 7:00pm. Friday night is B104 night, with artists such as The Sandlot Heros and Jason Derulo. The rest of the weekend features music artists including the Craig Thatcher Band, The Allentown Band, and events such as the Hot Dog Eating Contest, and new children’s shows and activities.

Miss Maggie, a Kutztown grad who combines singing, guitar, percussion, poems and stories, returns with “The Mother Earth Show,” a new program she created for last year’s Pennsylvania Renewable Energy Festival. Joined by puppets Henry O’ Energy and Bertha Eartha, Miss Maggie sings original songs about recycling and taking care of plants and animals while kids shake recycled noisemakers. She performs at 4 p.m. Monday.
In addition to May Fair, support The United Veterans of Bethlehem by coming to the Memorial Day Parade that starts at 9:00am in front of Liberty High School. In case of rain, the parade will be moved to the Liberty High School gym at 10:00am.
Another must-attend event to celebrate Memorial Day is the Triathlon for Kids! Held in Center Valley, the triathlon involves swimming, running, and biking for children up to 10 years of age.
There are three age groups. Children under age 6 swim 50 yards, bike 1/8 mile and run two laps. Ages 6-8 swim 100 yards, bike 2/3 mile and run 4 laps. Agess 8-10 swim 200 yards, bike 3/4 mile and run 6 laps. Helmets are required.
The Nittany Lion will be on hand and all participants will get t-shirts and ribbons. The swimming will be held in the Swim-in Zone, 4355 Saucon Creek Road, biking is on Saucon Creek Road (which will be closed) and running is in the parking lot.
